ISIS 5 is Coming
To ISIS Users,
We are pleased to announced that on August 27, 2006, ISIS 5 is going live.
ISIS 5 introduces a number of enhancements while maintaining backward compatibility with ISIS 4. Here are some key enchancements:
- There is now an updated UCLA visual identity compliant user interface for the login page with added customization options for applications.
- ISIS no longer actively blocks users with conflicting IP address, i.e., the bulk of the 604010 errors are now elinimated. Instead, ISIS will log and monitor the conflicts passively.
- ISIS 5 uses the Enterprise Directory as its data source. Most of the ED data is updated in near real-time.
- ISIS 5 works with the new UCLA Logon ID.
- ISIS 5 supports federated authentication and attribute query via the Internet2 standard Shibboleth protocol.
Impacts to Applications
First, ISIS 5 has a fully compatible programmatic interface with ISIS 4. All the calls to the ISIS web service, as well as the parameters supported during login page redirection remain the same. There should be no programming changes needed for your current ISIS 4 application to work with ISIS 5.
Because of the new login page design and support for UCLA Logon, we recommend updating your user support materials to reflect the changes.
If you currently have a customized ISIS login page. We have made an attempt to port your existing page to ISIS 5. However, please review them and make any necessary adjustments.
Migrating Your Application to ISIS 5
Migration for most applications should be straight forward.
The ISIS team will be contacting each application support team to work on transition in the next 3 weeks. We will start with the groups that currently have customized login pages so that these groups have the time to review and update the page design.
